How to track your childs’ progress and development in Tacpac

Tacpac is used as a sensory communication resource between 2 people.

As a parent using Tacpac at home, you might like to see how your child is developing their sensory communication with you. Here is a simple diagram were you can see more or less where your child is now, and where they will move to with improvement and progress. We recommend that you do one set for 6 months, with weekly sessions, and do not rush the process.

When you start off, at the beginning, your child may be in the Reactive Phase. All reaction is still communication, but this may not be intended by your child. Look at the phrases describing this level of communication. Can you recognise your child in this phase?

After 2 or 3 months, your child may move to the Proactive Phase. Your child may start to intend their communication, joining in a little more, anticipating the activities a little more, being more curious and engaged and sustaining focus for longer. Look at the phrases describing this level of communication. Can you recognise you child in this phase?

Towards 4 – 6 months, your child may move to the Interactive Phase. Your child may start relating to you as a sharing partner, making clear signs, or using words which indicate preferences, and making choices. Look at the phrases describing this level of communication. Can you recognise your child in this phase?
